Plan By Peter Obi To Raise Minimum Wage To N80,000-N100,000 Leaked

Must read

The Labour Party has said it would implement a minimum wage of N80,000 to N100,000 if the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, wins the 2023 election.

Recall that the Labour Party had, a few days ago, unveiled its manifesto after a long wait with its candidate Peter Obi touting the payment of hourly wages against the current monthly format in the country.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, December 8, 2022, the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Ayo Olorufemi, stated that LP is looking at implementing a new minimum wage of between N80,000 to N100,000 as against the current N30,000.

He said, “It depends on the nature of the job that would be given out. For instance, when you take a cursory look at the manual labour out there, a labourer does not take less than N2,500-N3,000 per day, which is still not okay as far as the reward system is concerned.

“If you divide N3,000 by six hours, you will be talking about N500 per hour.”

“So, when you benchmark that against what we have now, certainly, you would be talking of something within the range of N500-N1,000 per hour depending on the nature of work, and at the end of the day, someone can effectively say that he can make up to N4,000 in a day.

“And when you multiply N4,000 in a day by 20 or 25, we are talking about N80,000 or N100,000 in a month.”

The 72-page manifesto was sent to The Trent on Sunday, December 4, 2022, by a senior member of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation after a 62-page document began circulation online.

The official, who did not wish to be named, told our newspaper, “I believe this is the correct final version. It is distinguishable from previous drafts because it has a date on the cover (3.12.2022). Previous updated versions are drafts.”

2023: Pat Utomi Reveals That 2 Former Heads Of State Are Supporting Peter Obi

Pat Utomi, a former presidential aspirant, has claimed two former Heads of State are supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi.

Utomi stated this while speaking at a town hall meeting on Friday, December 2, 2022, organised by the Yell Out Nigeria for Good Governance in Abuja.

He, however, did not reveal the names of the ex-Heads of State.

But Utomi noted that they were ready to work for Obi, to ensure he becomes the next president of Nigeria.

According to him, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, don’t have strong structures like the LP.

“Money alone does not win elections. Two former heads of state have said to me they are Obidients.

“A lot of people want to join the movement without joining the Labour Party to ensure Peter Obi and Baba-Ahmed win, so they can capture our country back from those who have held us down.

“The LP has better structures than PDP and APC.

“Their structure is a criminal network of people who can fix elections. We have to stop that; that is not structure,” Utomi said.
