The Cross River State police command has confirmed the arrest of five notorious cultists in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The suspects were allegedly holding a nocturnal meeting on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Aka Efa Town Hall in Calabar when the police rounded them up.

Investigations conducted by journalists revealed that the suspects were members of Klans confraternity.

When contacted, Mohammed Inuwa Hafiz, the Commissioner of Police, confirmed the arrest, saying their arrest has averted a bloodbath in Calabar.

“We have arrested five Klans men while holding a nocturnal meeting in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

“The State Housing Police Division arrested the suspects amongst them top government officials and personal assistant to one of the Commissioners in the State.

He said the suspects were picked on Saturday, April 21, 2018, while the meeting was about to take place.

The Commissioner said the meeting was in preparatory to unleashed terror in the town. “The meeting was a reprisal to the killings in Calabar by the rival cults group,” the CP stated.

He said, “This was made possible from information given by members of the public. The suspects had had hands in many cultist operations in Calabar.

“We have been closing on them; amongst the arrested suspects was a personal assistant to one of the Commissioners in the State.”

He called on members of the public to continue to volunteer information to the Police particularly when they notice unnecessary movement in their areas.
