The Nigerian House of Representatives have launched an investigation into allegations by the Department of State Services (DSS) that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had planned to hack into the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The House on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 set up a committee to look into the allegation and submit its report in two weeks.
This was after the deputy majority leader, Leo Ogor had brought a motion to the floor titled:’The unauthorized and alleged hacking into the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC database”.
Ogor stated in his submission that: “the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is vested by the Nigerian Constitution with the responsibilities to carry out the functions of conducting elections into elective positions in the country.
“the DSS allegations relating to the alleged plan to hack into the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC database is a very serious allegation.
“And that the allegations coming at the heels of an election period calls for concern and should not be treated with levity”.
