Robbers Invade Lagos State Secretariat, Cart Away N3 Million

Suspected armed robbers have invaded Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, in the early hours of Friday, June 5, 2015 making away with the sum of N3 million kept in the ministry’s offices.

The robbers broke into the ministry’s Account Department through the ceiling, after which they carted away the money.

The money was said to have been brought in at the close of work on Thursday and kept in one of the offices. It was meant to be used to pay the allowances of about 40 ad-hoc staffs, working as mediation officers for the ministry.

Sources told the Vanguard that about 20 civil servants and security officers attached to the department have been detained by the Alausa Police Station for investigation .

None of the robbers was arrested and the act was not discovered until about 9:00 when a member of staff raised the alarm.

The ministry was soon closed and remained so as to avert any interference with investigations into the theft.
