Rooney’s Record-making Goal Keeps United’s Title Hopes Alive

Manchester United came up against their rivals, Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, January 17, 2016. The keenly contested match appeared to be heading for a goalless draw before Wayne Rooney popped up to score a really nice goal in the 78th minute.

That goal was enough to win Manchester United match and also to set a new premier league record. That goal was Rooney’s 176th premier league goal for United; the highest number of premier league goals scored by a player in a single club. This was the fourth consecutive match in which Rooney has now scored for the Red Devils.

The record was previously held by Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry with 175 goals.

The victory over Liverpool also means that Manchester United are now back in with a shout as regards their title ambition. They are now just 7 points adrift the summit of the table where Leicester and Arsenal are tied on 44 points each.
