In the wake of the recent threat directed at Igbos resident in Lagos by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode on Saturday, April 11, 2015 or perish, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 assured Igbos and non-indigenes resident in Lagos State to exercise the franchise without fear as the group had concluded plans to ensure their safety.

Speaking via a statement, the President of the OPC, Frederick Fasehun said OPC members have been mandated to ensure that no one was intimidated or molested before and after the election.

He said, “OPC is a frontline group for the defence of Yoruba interests and the dispensation of social justice to sojourners in the South-West. And we shall be doing everything to make everyone feel safe throughout the duration of the electoral process, before, during and after voting.

“Yoruba cherishes its republican and cosmopolitan outlook, and this cannot be abridged by anybody and any institution,” he said, adding, “OPC will continue to maintain its position of defending people’s liberty, including the freedom to vote for parties and candidates of their choice.”
