ABUJA, Nigeria — Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force over the alleged forgery and cloning of his signature on an official party document.
In three separate letters dated Wednesday, October 15, 2025, and acknowledged by the agencies between October 15 and 16, Anyanwu raised alarm over what he described as a “criminal act” involving a falsified letter purportedly addressed to INEC in relation to the PDP’s upcoming elective national convention.
According to the PDP official, the letter — referenced PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol.1M/25-140 and dated Monday, August 25, 2025 — was circulated to INEC without his knowledge or authorisation.
“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised or known to me,” Anyanwu wrote.
“It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature on the letter.”
He urged the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Inspector-General of Police to launch full investigations into the incident and prosecute those responsible for what he called a “criminal conduct.”
“I therefore request that this criminal conduct by officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their collaborators within INEC be investigated and the culprits prosecuted,” he stated.
Each petition included an excerpt of the alleged forged document as evidence.
Anyanwu said his petitions were aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the PDP’s internal processes ahead of its planned 2025 national convention.
He warned that the circulation of falsified correspondence could undermine confidence in the party’s leadership and its dealings with electoral and security institutions.
“The petitions became necessary to protect the integrity of the PDP and prevent the use of falsified documents in official communications,” he said.
The controversy adds to ongoing internal tensions within the PDP’s national leadership. Anyanwu, a close ally of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, recently regained his position as national secretary after the Supreme Court, in March, nullified an earlier judgment that had removed him from office.
Following the ruling, PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum directed Anyanwu to resume his duties, describing the decision as a “difficult but necessary step” to stabilise the party.
