The Nigerian Army has threatened that it would expose politically exposed persons who are collaborating with Boko Haram terrorists.
The Army also debunked social media reports claiming that General Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, has been wounded in an ambush by the terrorists at an unnamed location in the North East while on his way to a courtesy visit to troops.
In an e-mailed statement to The Trent on Saturday, December 9, 2017, Sani Usman, the Nigerian Army spokesperson, urged the general public to disregard the information as there had been no case of ambush against the troops in recent times.
Brigadier General Usman affirmed that the Chief of Army Staff was hale and hearty, conducting his official duties diligently. He said the “gallant troops” were currently dealing decisive blows on the Boko Haram terrorists in the Lake Chad area, adding that over 60 of the terrorists have either been captured or neutralised in the last three days.
“The Nigerian Army is also closing up with the political Boko Haram terrorists and their collaborators. They will soon be exposed and the law will take its course against them.
“We wish to use this opportunity to thank teeming Nigerians that called and showed concern over this fake news. We wish to assure you that no amount of mischief or campaign of calumny under any guise will distract the Chief of Army Staff from his determined efforts of leading a responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its Constitutional roles.”
Buhari Defeats Boko Haram?
Late December 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari declared victory over the Islamist terrorist group after Nigerian troops announced that they have recaptured Camp Zero in Sambisa forest, the base of the deadliest terrorist group in the world.
The Nigerian Army later presented the president with the flag belonging to the terrorist group in a “mission accomplished” ceremony.
Since the declaration a week ahead of Christmas Day 2016, Boko Haram has launched a number of deadly attacks in the North Eastern region of the country where the terrorists have murdered at least 50,000 since they began their campaign to establish an Islamic caliphate in the country.
