The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the names of candidates for the 2019 elections in Sokoto State and it has been discovered that Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s name is not on the list of those contesting for the number one seat in the state.

The list which was displayed at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state showed that Manir Dan’iya is listed as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

Dan’iya was the immediate past commissioner for Local Government and Community Development.

According to the list, 34 candidates would contest for the seat but sources within the commission said the candidates are up to 50.

“There are more candidates and their credentials would be displayed this week,” he assured.

Daily Trust learnt on Sunday, November 11, 2018, that among the candidates is Hajiya Salamatu Isa Abdullahi who is contesting under the banner of the Progressives Party Alliance, PPA.

When contacted, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, the PDP chairman of the state, said “no cause for alarm” as there is still time for substitution.

Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Government has applauded the response of registered voters to the ongoing “clean up” exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the state.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser, Public Enlightenment and Mobilization to Governor Tambuwal, Akibu Dalhatu said a Monitoring Committee was set up to work with the executives of the party at various levels towards ensuring awareness among the voters.

The statement further explained that the committee had compilled complaints of eligible voters which were handed over to INEC for consideration.
