That was Paul’s prayer to God for the Christians in Colosse. He prayed for them to be a certain kind of people: in other words, that was who they were meant to be; that was his vision concerning them; that’s who we should be – Paul painted the picture of an ideal believer.
Being a Christian, that is, being born again, is fantastic; how I wish that all men would be saved! But we must not stop at that. We must grow up: there’s a standard; there’s a prototype (Jesus) that we all must desire to be like – a believer filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; walking worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, and always giving thanks to the Father.
