Spirit And Life Devotional: The Ideal Believer

Must read

[pull_quote_center]Colossians 1.9-12 “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him,  being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.”[/pull_quote_center]

That was Paul’s prayer to God for the Christians in Colosse. He prayed for them to be a certain kind of people: in other words, that was who they were meant to be; that was his vision concerning them; that’s who we should be – Paul painted the picture of an ideal believer.

Being a Christian, that is, being born again, is fantastic; how I wish that all men would be saved! But we must not stop at that. We must grow up: there’s a standard; there’s a prototype (Jesus) that we all must desire to be like – a believer filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; walking worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, and always giving thanks to the Father. Hallelujah!
