“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12 NKJV
The funny thing about us human beings is that we like big and complicated things: we tend to overlook it if it is simple; for us to take it seriously, we think that it ought to be somewhat difficult and mysterious.
Is it not interesting that people are still talking about the many commandments of the Old Testament when there’s just one in the New? Those commandments that the Israelites couldn’t keep is what we love to “hear” about: but 1 John 5:3 says that “His commandments are not burdensome.”
There is only one commandment; just one: to love one another. Jesus said it in John 15:12, and He repeated it again in John 15:17, “These things I command you, that you love one another.” Here’s the mystery: he who keeps this one command.
