“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.” – Job 31:1
Following Jesus and making heaven requires determination. People who aren’t determined will not go very far in the Christian journey. They won’t also achieve meaningful success in life and in their pursuits. That’s how important it is to be determined.
It’s because of determined men and women that we have the gospel today. Believers and ministers of the gospel were greatly persecuted – threatened, killed, imprisoned, tortured and beaten by people who didn’t want to see the gospel spread; but their determination ensured that the great commission was fulfilled.
It takes determination to live a holy life. Daniel and his friends determined not to defile themselves with foods offered to idols. Iniquity abounds everywhere in the world – in the offices, schools, on television and the internet, etc – only a determined Christian can resist the numerous temptations to sin against God and compromise.
We can’t be double-minded. We can’t be friends of God and also friends of the world at the same time. We’ve got to choose to please God, and be determined to stick with our choices until when we leave this world.
I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back. Goodbye world, I’m staying no longer with you; goodbye pleasures of sin; I’ve made up my mind to serve God acceptably. So help me God. Amen.
