Spirit And Life Devotional: Leadership And Direction

Numbers 14:4 NKJV “So they said to one another, ‘Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.'”

Leadership determines the direction that we go as a people. Whether we are going to go upward and forward as a people, or backward, will be determined by the kind of leadership we have. That’s what leadership is really about: leading us to somewhere! It is therefore very important for leaders to have a clear vision of where they want to take the people that they are leading to.

In the case of the Israelites, they wanted to go backward! God had delivered them from Egypt, and was leading them to the Promised Land, but the journey wasn’t as pleasant as they had expected, and it seemed longer than they had thought it would be. They became dissatisfied with the current leadership that God had given them and wanted to choose one that would lead them back to Egypt. We will never go backward in Jesus name!

Proverbs 29:18 says that where there is no vision, the people perish. What we need are visionary leaders at all levels of government in our country. We also need men who understand God’s purpose for us as a people, and will accept divine guidance on how to get there. My prayer is that we will not misuse this opportunity that we have to choose the right leaders for our country and our respective states. The plans of the enemy and the wicked ones will never succeed in Jesus name! May God give us leaders after His heart, Godfearing leaders that will be focused and determined to do only what is right and pleasing in His sight. Amen.
