It’s okay for a minister of the gospel to work and earn some money, but it is my belief that a minister who combines other work or business with ministry cannot do ministry as effectively as he should. If he is able to achieve so much in ministry while working, he has the capacity to achieve much more if his attention is undivided.
It’s simple: you cannot serve two masters! Someone says, “But Paul was a tentmaker”; my response, “How many times did you read of him making tents?” There were times Paul worked, but never on a fulltime basis; there are scriptural evidences that Paul had lots of people who provided for Him.
As Jesus went about preaching in every city, the Bible says that many people provided for Him from their substance. No wonder Jesus was able to accomplish so much in only about three years. The question is, “How are you supporting the minister and his ministry?” It’s how God wants the ministry to operate! I Corinthians 9:14 says, “Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.” So when you support a minister you are doing the will of God! Don’t be the type who keeps hearing the word and isn’t providing for the minister; and don’t wait to be told! Make it a habit, do it faithfully; and God will bless you.
