Spirit And Life Devotional: Victory Over The Flesh

Romans 8:8 NKJV “So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

The Bible talks about two categories of that cannot please God: those without faith (Hebrews 11:6), and those who are in the flesh (Romans 8:8). Notice the words used in both verses; “impossible” and “cannot”. If you are going to church every day, reading the Bible, reading devotionals like this, and living in the flesh, you may feel good, but don’t be deceived, God is not pleased.

How to know if you are living in the flesh: check your mind; your thoughts and your desires. What are the things you are always thinking about; what are the things you love to do; what places do you go to often? Romans 8:5 says, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

You want victory over the flesh? Do you desire to please God? As a Christian that must be your desire because we were created for His pleasure. There’s only one way; to walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:16-17 says, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” In other words, you can’t serve both masters at the same time; you’ve got to engage yourself, body, soul and spirit on the things of the Spirit. Galatians 5:24 says, “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” Hallelujah!
