PassionistaHub.com is a contemporary online fashion blogazine. In case you’re wondering what inspires the name: “Passionista”, it is actually a portmanteau word from “passion” + “(fashio)nista”. Recently nominated “ONLINE PUBLICATION OF THE YEAR”, FAB AWARDS 2012, the blogazine is into catchy trends, with topics ranging from fragrances to make-up tips, to ManStyle, models, editorials, red carpet, upcoming fashion events, news and scoops in Nigeria & beyond! It also addresses the multifarious and multidimensional fashions that abound in the music and movie world.

If there’s one lady that is garnering massive rave reviews and unbridled access into fashion circles, it is “12 Years a Slave” co-star (and Golden Globe nominee) Lupita Nyong’o. Her talent is not in doubt and so is her refreshingly alluring style on the red carpet (thanks to her stylist Micaela Erlanger). As you read this, Lupita is currently enjoying the toast of topnotch fashion brands. Just before her Golden Globe 2014 moments, she sported some impressively chic ensembles. Let’s quickly have a look at them.

The first picture (from left), shows Lupita in a white Altuzarra number with a deep “V” neckline and draped details. Her stylist paired the with a gunmetal cylindrical clutch and a pair of lavender Bruno Magli heels.
VERDICT: I love the mininalist approach taken here as regards the styling. White offers inexhaustible options for styling with metallics and bright hues. Another thing to note is the effective draped detail on her dress as it gives the illusion that the actress is curvy. Other shoe options for this look may include slingbacks, captoe and ankle strap sandals in colours like burgundy, silver, red, black, azure, purple, cerulean, terracotta, etc. On the scale of 1-10, Ms. Nyong’o gets an 8.9 for this look.

The next picture is a mildly dramatic, yet simple as she opts for a fit-and-flare Mary Katrantzou dress. Her accessories: checked clutch and navy blue pointy-toe shoes are colour-coordinated to go with the dress.
VERDICT: Her stylist played a little safe here but offered an engaging red carpet look. I give this 6.5 as this isn’t the quintessential Lupita in her chicest look. I feel there would’ve been a “pop of red” or burgundy somewhere.

The final red carpet look depicts Ms. Nyong’o in a navyblue/gold floral ensemble by Carolina Herrera with a broad “V” neckline. She paired the look with cobalt blue pointy-toe heels thereby giving her a girly but firm chic looks.
VERDICT: I love the colour contrast of her heels with the floral piece. At times, unexpected colour of accessories paired with ensembles work best. Have you notice the reoccurring pointy-toes stilettos worn by the Hollywood star in the 3 pics? Shoes of this nature elongates a svelte or slightly shapely lady. Please if you’re vertically challenged or heavily a plus size, stilettos shoes may not work for you (chunky heels will do)! However, a stylist or style consultant must take the personality and individuality of their client into cognizant before proceeding to dress and/or style them. For this classy look, I give Lupita an 8!

Guys, which is your favourite Lupita Nyong’o red carpet look?
