Taraba NUT Chairman Escapes Assassination

Julius Peter, the Taraba State chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, on Monday, December 10, 2018, narrowly escaped death when he was attacked by three unknown gunmen along Garin Dogo-Garin Mallam village in Lau Local Government Area of the state on his way to Jalingo.

They assailants shut indiscriminately at his vehicle while returning from a function in his village with two of his relatives.

Mr. Job Vau, the younger brother to the chairman who broke the news to NAN said, “I left him on Sunday, December 9, 2018,  in the village while I returned to Jalingo.

“This morning on his way from the village he came under attack between Garin Dogo and Garin Mallam Village.

“He was driving himself in a Hilux van with two of our sisters. The bullet pierced his arm and he was rushed to the hospital.

He is responding to treatment according to doctors and we thank God that he is alive.

David Misal, the Taraba State police public relations officer, confirmed the attack to NAN in Jalingo.

Missal said the NUT Chairman has been taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Jalingo for treatment.

“We received a distress call that the NUT Chairman, Julius Peter, while on his way from Lau to Jalingo came under attack by three unidentified gunmen who opened fire on his vehicle.

“He sustained bullet injury in his arm and he is currently receiving treatment at the state specialist hospital.

“We were able to recover the vehicle and investigation into the attack has commenced and we will bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.
