Must read

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his small island group in the South Pacific Ocean is usually referred as a real paradise on the Earth. And that is easy to understand because this fantastic place has everything that you can imagine – breathtaking nature, pristine beaches, high-class, but still pretty cheap Bora Bora hotels and activities suitable for all travelers’ taste. However, this paradise has a lot more to offer and can surprise you with its facts. And below I am going to present you six of them!

It is not exactly “Bora Bora.”

The first surprising thing I can share with you today about this amazing island is that locals call it slightly differently than us. In fact, locals there use the Tahitian language, which doesn’t have a letter “B” in their alphabet. Therefore, there is no “Bora Bora”– there is “Pora Pora”! It is believed that the first Europeans who discovered this island misheard locals pronouncing the name of the island (which means “first born” in Tahitian), and hence it goes like that until this day and age too.

Filmmakers love the island

Therefore, if you have seen such movies like Couples Retreat, or such TV shows like Bachelorette or Keeping up with the Kardashians you probably saw a bit of this fantastic island as well.

There are no poisonous animals there

If you have always dreamed of a place where you can enjoy nature without risking your life in any way, Bora Bora can be a perfect destination for you! In fact, here live thousands of wild animals (the biggest part of them underwater), but there are literally no poisonous snakes or insects living there! Of course, in the sea, you might meet a shark, but on land you won’t have to protect yourself from anything at all – Bora Bora is indeed a paradise on earth, where nature and people live together happily!

A perfect place for romance

Bora Bora is also usually referred as the most romantic place on earth. First of all, because here you will always find a nice place to stay with your beloved one and enjoy your honeymoon as much as you want. On one hand, if you are young and single, you will love the fact, that half of all Bora Bora population is younger than 20 years old! This is one of the youngest countries in the world, so if you are young and looking for love – you know where to head.

On the other hand, you can wait for someone to come to you, if you want too. The easiest way of doing that is by using locals invented signal. For instance, if you are a woman and put any kind of flower over your left ear – you show off the world that you are taken. While if you put that flower over your right ear – you are looking for someone special.

Bora Bora belongs to France

Yes! In fact, this paradise legally is the oversea territory of France. That shouldn’t be such big news, knowing the fact, that Bora Bora is located in so-called French Polynesia (also known as Tahiti) and is one of 118 islands which belongs to this territory.

The best beach in the world in located here

And finally, a real cherry on top of the cake is the fact, that Bora Bora is a proud owner of the best beach in the world. In 2013, the World’s 100 best beaches list were made by CNN, and guess what – the Matira Beach, which happens to be in Bora Bora, made to the top 10. White sand, clean beaches and wonderful environment indeed makes this beach worth of that honorable place. Sometimes it looks so great, that you might start to wonder if all that beauty is real!
