UBEC Launches Programme To Reduce Child Illeteracy

The Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, has said that Better Education Service Delivery for All, BESDA, in Nigeria will reduce the number of out-of-school children.

David Apeh, the head of public relations, and protocol, who made this known in a statement released to journalists on Monday, March 29, 2021, said the BESDA will also reduce literacy among school-age children in Nigeria.

He also quoted the Deputy Executive Secretary, Isiaka Olayinka Kolawale as saying that the “BESDA programme will significantly promote system strengthening among states of the federation and therefore the target out-of-school children.”

“These were the submission of the Deputy Executive Secretary, Services,  Isiaka Olayinka Kolawale at the ongoing workshop on Financing Agreement and its Implementation Manual signed with SUBEBs for legal officers of the Universal Basic Education Commission in Lagos.

“He said BESDA program will significantly promote system strengthening among States of the Federation and therefore target out-of-school children to ensure they taken off the street and place under proper school system.

“The Deputy Executive Secretary stressed that the BESDA programme which is supported by World Bank is targeted at out-of-school children increase equitable Acess, improve literacy and strengthen Accountability for results in Basic Education delivery in Nigeria,” he said.
