Troops returning from Bama on humanitarian escort duty, were ambushed enroute Maiduguri by suspected remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in Meleri village, a few kilometres from Kawuri.

The gallant troops however, successfully cleared the ambush and exploited up to Afunori.

Unfortunately, 2 soldiers and 3 civilians were wounded in the ambush, among whom were staff of United Nations agencies and other international humanitarian organizations. The wounded have been evacuated to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri and they are in stable condition.

The Nigerian Army wishes to sympathize with our wounded colleagues, the United Nations and other Non-governmental organizations whose personnel were also injured in this sad incident.

We wish to reiterate our determination and commitment to ensuring safety and security in the North East and safeguarding the lives of all persons.

  1. The keyword for me is “safeguarding the lives of all pple” in contrast to Ezekwesili and her band of BBOG campaign. Their campaign is getting political nw & they’re at rist of making their campaigns and themselves an anathema to the polity. The Nigerian military have performed admirably since the advent of PMB. I thot Ezekwesili served in the corruption ridden GEJ government who diverted funds meant for the military efforts against the sadistic & genocidal boko haram sect. I have not heard her and her group commend the Nigerian military for rescuing thousands of captives frm the clutches of boko haram or are those not Nigerians like the Chibok girls ? Do you lot not realise the risk the military boys nd girls put themselves thru with one hand tied behind them ? Pls leave the military to do their work without yu denigrating their efforts on the altar of BBOG campaign. All Nigeria need is a good leader and I don’t give a rat’s ass where he or she comes from in this polity. Its u lot who sees Hausa, Yoruba nd Ibo nd use that as rhetoric of political convenience !
