Istifanus Gyang, the member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the National Assembly, has called on the Federal Government to urgently recover lands being occupied by Fulani Herdsmen in Nigeria.

Gyang while speaking at Plenary during Thursday, February 8, 2018, seating of the House of Representatives also charged the FG to undertake the reconstruction of the communities displaced and destroyed by violent Herdsmen attacks.

According to him, any effort aimed at bringing the “senseless and barbaric” killings to an end would aide socioeconomic development in the country.

Gyang speaking on a motion by Honourable Sunday Katung, member representing Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency of Kaduna State on the need to include Kaduna and Plateau among states affected by Herdsmen/Farmer crisis to be visited by the National Economic Council Working Group Sub Committee disclosed that over 44 villages in his constituency are currently under forceful occupation by the Herdsmen.

He submitted that the NEC committee visit would bring the government face to face with the “lamentable” situation in the Constituency and other communities in Plateau State.

The rep member drew the attention of the house to the continuing attacks on Irigwe and Manguna communities in Bassa and Bokkos LGs respectively, a situation he said calls for decisive actions by security agencies towards arresting the killings.
