Nairaland: Web Designer Allegedly Swindles Blogger Of N1.7 Million

A website designer, Ikechukwu Iwezor has been arraigned in  an Igbosere Magistrate’s court for allegedly for swindling a blogger of a sum of N1.7 million after the two of them met on Nairaland, a Nigerian social media forum.

The police told Punch that the blogger whose name is Ola Akinlayo met the 28-year old Iwezor on Nairaland, in September 2015, where they started discussions on building a website.

According to Akinlayo, he paid Iwezor for him to design a website for him. But Iwezor fled to Abuja after obtaining the money.

After efforts to get his money back failed, Akinlayo said he involved the police.

The newspaper reports that Iwezor was subsequently apprehended in Abuja.

Iwezor was arraigned in court on three counts of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing by Sergeant Innocent Odugbo, who told the court that the offences were punishable under section 409, 312 (2) and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

After the charges were read, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Danielle Abbe, Iwezor’s counsel pleaded that the court grant him bail on liberal terms, maintaining that the web designer was innocent until proven otherwise.

Mrs. F. F. George who was the presiding magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum.

The included that the sureties must show evidences of three years tax clearance and show their addresses to the prosecutor for confirmation.
