105 Soldiers, T-72 Tank Missing Following Fierce Battle With Boko Haram In Borno (DETAILS)

As many as 105 soldiers belonging to the 157 battalion, along with their commanding officer are feared missing after the unit came under intense attack by Boko Haram terrorists in Gudunbali in Borno State.

According to a Premium Times report, a military source confirmed this news and revealed that the terrorists also captured a T-72 tanker “as well as several artillery weapons” in the battle which took place on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

“Gudunbali was attacked this morning and some weapons were captured from the battalion. Two officers and 105 soldiers are still missing,” the source told Premium Times. “They captured a T-72 tank from the unit and some artillery weapons were also captured. The commanding Officer (CO) of the battalion is yet to be seen but no one has been confirmed dead yet.”

“Another source however said the T-72 tank was recovered after a prolonged fight with Boko Haram insurgents. The gunner and tank commander were injured in the process, he said,” the online newspaper reports.

The terrorists also captured eight vehicles, a truck loaded with 60,000 rounds of AA ammunition and three artillery pieces from the unit.

Neither the Nigerian Army spokesman, Sani Usman and the spokesman for the Army’s 7 Division, Tukur Gusau were willing to comment on the matter.
