Must read

No fewer than 15 people have been killed by bandits during attacks on two local government areas in Sokoto State.

Aminu Tambuwal, the state governor, who confirmed the attack on Monday, November 15, 2021, revealed that the affected local government areas were Goronyo and Illela.

He explained that the locals were killed during the attacks which occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Governor Tambuwal disclosed this shortly before he presented the state’s 2022 draft budget to members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.

Giving an update on the incident, he said 12 people were killed in Illela and three others lost their lives in Goronyo.

The governor condoled with the families of those who lost their loved ones to the attacks, as well as people of the affected communities.

The attacks came barely a month after bandits invaded Goronyo township where 43 people were confirmed killed.

Governor Tambuwal, who confirmed the toll after an initial figure of 30, said the gunmen attack a market in Goronyo in the night on the day of the incident.

Condemning the attack which occurred on October 17, President Muhammadu Buhari sent a tough warning to bandits, saying their clock of ultimate destruction was ticking and they would no longer have a place to hide.

“The days of the bandits are indeed numbered because the military capabilities of our forces are being boosted by the acquisition and deployment of advanced equipment,” the President was quoted to have said in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu.

He said bandits were living in the “fool’s paradise of invincibility”, but reality would soon dawn on them harder than ever before.

President Buhari added that the criminals were under desperate pressure because of the intense and sustained air and ground operations against them in their hideouts by the nation’s security forces.
