2 Men Remanded Over Alleged Unlawful Possession Of Firearms

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 ordered the remand of two men over alleged unlawful possession of firearms.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. Kusanu, ordered the remand of 60-year-old Ogbuefi Emmanuel and 27-year-old Okechukwu Achinulo, who did not take any plea.

The magistrate adjourned the case till Feb. 24 pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Emmnuel, a security consultant, resides at No. 15, Sarah Fagboyode St., Asamu Estate, Ejigbo, while Achinulo, a driver, resides at No. 1, Amudalbu St., Ikotu Egbe, Lagos.

They are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the accused sometime in February, 2015 at about 10:15a.m. at Ikotun area of Lagos, conspired with others still at large to commit the offences.

Odugbo said that Achinulo stole three Jojeff double barrel prohibited guns and seven prohibited Jojeff pump action guns, valued at N2 million, property of one Ezebunwa Donatus.

He also said that on the same day and time, Emmanuel ‎received four prohibited Jojeff pump action guns and one prohibited Jojeff double barrel gun valued at N800,000 from Achinulo.

Odugbo also said that three prohibited double barrel guns and seven prohibited Jojeff pump action guns were found in the possession of Emmanuel.

He added that Emmanuel could not give any satisfactory reason why the guns were in his possession.

Odugbo said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 326 , 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and Section 28 (B-) (1) of Firearms Act Cap 146, Laws of the Federation 2004, as amended.
