The lifeless remains of two children who were declared missing in Awaka community of Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State capital, were reportedly discovered inside an abandoned car which belonged to a man that resides outside the country.
It was gathered that the corpses were found after the children had disappeared mysteriously, close to a beer parlour.
The mystery surrounding the discovery of the corpses in the abandoned vehicle remains unknown, although Vanguard reported that the children had previously been declared missing by their parents.
Speaking about the development, a resident of the community who did not want his name in print said: “When the tarpaulin used in covering the vehicle was removed, the bodies of the two children were found.
“The owner of the parked vehicle lives outside Nigeria. I do not even remember when the owner of the vehicle last visited home. As at the day the sad incident was discovered, the vehicle owner was not at home.
In response to a question, the villager affirmed that the police had already stepped into the matter, adding that “in the usual police fashion, they would critically probe all leads with a view to getting to the roots of the matter.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Andrew Enwerem, said he was yet to hear about the development.
He said: “As at the time of your inquiry, no such information has reached my table. It may come later, but for now, I have not received any such signal.”
