2,000 PDP Members Decamp To APC In Edo

About 2,000 members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, have reportedly defected to All Progressives Congress, APC.

The event which took place on Sunday, November 2, 2014 attracted the presence of the two APC senatorial candidates from Edo North; the incumbent senator, Domingo Obende and the Secretary to Edo State Government, Professor Julius Ihonvbere.

Among those who witnessed the official defection also includes the aide to former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Col Tunde Akogun (rtd), Frank Awe.

Senator Obende, who stated that the defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, to the APC, marks the end of the PDP era in the Nigeria, also condemned Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Government over the withdrawal of the security details attached to the speaker, stating that no form of intimidation would stop APC from winning the forthcoming presidential election.

According to Senator Bende, the defection of the Tambuwal and the inability of the PDP to constitute a two-third majority for a change in leadership is apointer that the APC had taken over control of the lower house.

Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Frank Awe stated, “We were members of the PDP, most us believed that what was happening in the PDP was not fair. When people now see you as being foolish politically, you tell them what you know.”
