The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 maintained that the commission is ready, by all standards to conduct a free and fair election in February, 2015.

According to Dr Ishmael Igbani, Chairman, INEC Electoral Training Institute, INEC is fully ready to conduct the 2015 general elections, stating that the commission has all the necessary resource and fund to conduct the process at the said time.

Inspector General of Police, Sulieman Abba, in similar vein, warned political parties in the country against unguarded utterances that are capable of triggering controversy. He stated that the police under his leadership would not hesitate to deal with political actors who flout the electoral rules as stipulated in the Electoral Act. He said nobody was above the law.

The Police and INEC addressed the security agencies at a workshop in Abuja ahead of the general elections.

Dr Ishmael, while speaking at the workshop, gave the assurance that funding was not a problem in conducting the February, 2015 polls.

”Anytime there is election in Nigeria, there is always some form of tension. I have been around for a while; I don’t think it is something new. I don’t think people should be afraid. But it is also essential that we get ready just in case.

“It is also very important that we have peaceful elections, it is also important that voters come out to vote without fear. It is also important that the personnel who will work for us and the environment itself is peaceful and for it to be peaceful, it is important for the security agencies to be alert and ensure that they do what they are supposed to do,” he said.
