3 More Bombers Feared Dead In Different Attempts On Gombe

Less than 12 hours after two bombers were killed by their bomb in an attempt at the Army Barracks, Gombe, on Wednesday night; another suicide bomber died Thursday morning at ECWA Church III behind Gombe State University.

THISDAY checks revealed that the Boys Brigade members who arrived earlier to ensure safety of the church environment saved what would have been a disasterous New Year celebration in Gombe.

According to one of the Boys Brigade members on guard at the church, the suicide bomber arrived on a motorcycle and met that the road had been barricaded.

He said the bomber was asked to alight for normal checking before he would be allowed entrance but refused.

The Boko Haram suspect then tried to meander through the barricade when the explosive blew up and killed the suicide bomber instantly.

Five among the boys sustained minor injuries with the exception of one who was probably closest to the bomber that had one of his arms almost chopped-off.

At the Army Barracks, an eyewitness said army on guard at the entrance were searching a vehicle when a motorcycle arrived with the passenger carrying a bag.

The entire place was immediately cordoned off and those trapped within the Mami Market were released about two hours later after a thorough search.

It was later gathered that the two men on the motorcycle died immediately; though another version

said it was the biker and a soldier.
Confirming the incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)of Gombe State Police Command, DSP Fwaje Atajiri said he could not comment on the barracks incident.

However,he said the incident at the ECWA III involved a young man who tried to jump a security barricade when the bomb exploded on him.

The PPRO added  only the man died and a few people present at the scene sustained minor injuries and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Atajiri further confirmed that the suicide bomber did not look like a Nigerian, judging by his facial marks.

He therefore urged members of the public to always report any suspicious individuals and movements to enable the security operative proactively nip bad intentions in the bud.
