5 Arrested For Planning Attack On President Jonathan’s House

Five people have been apprehended by the Bayelsa State command of the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged attack on the house of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Yenagoa.

According to a report by Punch, the suspects – Asupha Emeka, 34; Ebipre Ebebi, 25; Samuel Joe, 27; Okilo Matthew, 25; and Timiere Matthew, 25 – were arrested in a hotel in Swali area of Yenagoa while they were perfecting plans for the onslaught.

Although the reason for the attack was not immediately made available, it was gathered that it was not unconnected to the Saturday, December 9, 2015 gubernatorial electoral re-run election as the attack was part of measures by unknown elements to create tension in the state.

The thugs were also said to be loyal to one of the leading candidates of the frontline political parties in the state.

Confirming the arrest the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat said: “On the January 6, 2016, at about 1500hrs, based on a tip-off, detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Vice unit stormed a hotel premises in Swali community, Yenagoa, and arrested five suspects.

“The suspects are Asupha Emeka, Ebipre Ebebi, Samuel Joe, Okilo Matthew and Timiere Matthew.”
