  1. Choose a topic to write about

Many a time, you will be asked by your teacher or professor to pick a topic to write about and sometimes your professor will ask you to choose your own topic.

If your professor picks a topic for you, you should figure out the type of paper you want to deliver.

If your professor asks you to choose your own topic, you have some more work to do in terms of research.

However, this is the best opportunity you can pick a topic you are knowledgeable about and one that is interesting. Once done with the choice of the topic, proceed to #2

  1. Create an outline

An outline is similar to the table of contents and it will help to make sure you don’t get lost while writing the essay.

It will also help you to write the paper in an organized manner. In this case, an outline will serve as a guide since you will just be following the points in your outline but in a sequential and in a paragraph manner.

After you are done with the outline of your essay, you head to #3

  1. Create your thesis statement

After you’ve chosen an interesting topic and you have organized your thoughts, it is time to write a thesis statement.

The thesis statement of your essay tells the reader the point of writing the essay; the main ideas and the point of the essay. After the thesis statement, proceed to #4

  1. The body

This is where you describe your topic. The ideas, you wrote in your outline will enter into this section but separately and in an organized manner. Each paragraph in this section needs to have the same structure.

Your first idea should be your introductory sentence, followed by your supporting ideas. You need to ensure you give examples to support your argument.

  1. Introduction

The introduction of your essay should be appealing and interesting to the reader. This is the section you want to show the focus of your essay. You should grab the reader’s attention with your first sentence.

  1. Conclusion

This is the end of your essay and is meant to summarize the entire paper and provide a conclusive perspective on your topic.

You should keep this to about three to five sentences. In this case, you should avoid adding new things that are not in your outline but review the main points.
