Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has scrapped the Finance and Administration Department in the state’s civil service, and renamed it the Administration and Human Resource Department.
This was made known via a circular passed by the Head of Service, Mrs. Shade Jaji, on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
According to Jaji, the decision became paramount in the administration’s bid to run an organized public service across the state.
The circular read, “With the commencement of the professional human resource management practice in the state public service, the hitherto Finance and Administration Department, which was the core of every ministry, department and agency of government, will now be known as the Administration and Human Resource Department charged with the sole responsibility of ensuring the effective and efficient professional running of all MDAs towards realising the goals and objectives of the government.”
The new department would be made up of five divisions, which include: Administration, Workforce Planning and Recruitment, Learning and Development, Employee and Industrial Relations and Human Resources Performance Measures.
All agencies across the state public service were also implored to start reviewing their current Finance and Administration departments to conform with the newly formed Human Resource Department.
