Another Church Building Collapses In Edo, 3 Feared Dead

Exactly one week after a church building collapsed in Lagos killing more than 70 worshippers, another church building has collapsed in Benin city. the Edo state capital on Friday, September 19, 2014.

Three persons are feared dead as a storey building belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God located at Usama street, Uzebu quarters in Benin City collapsed.

The states Police commissioner, Folunso Adebanjo, who visited the scene after the collapse, expressed shock over the incident, saying that the Command would investigate the cause of the incident.

The building which collapsed was the church office and residence of church officials.

One body has been removed from the rubble while two persons are still trapped.

According to reports, there were nine workers hired at N3000 per day who were working in the building on the day the building collapsed. Three of the workers escaped death by the whiskers as they stepped out of the building to eat before the tragedy.

Five were rescued from the building but came out with broken limbs.

Angry residents went violent and set a bus belonging to the church on fire  and destroyed the worship auditorium of the church.

They blamed the church for the tragedy saying they used manual labour to demolish the building instead of hiring an excavator.
