Governor Ayade Begs For FG’s Help Complete Obudu Passengers Airport

Governor Benedict Ayade of Cross River State has appealed to the federal government to assess its ongoing construction of Obudu Passengers and International Airport with a view to extending robust support to it.

He said the appeal is in view of the expectations of commissioning the airport in six months.

He spoke in Calabar on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, stressing the need to stamp the state on the world tourism map.

The governor said tourism is the major driving force behind the ongoing construction of the Airport and needs federal support.

He said, “The cutting of the hard terrain of the airport is by no means a small job and we invite the federal government, in particular, the ministry of aviation to come and look at what we are doing with serious attention to enable it come up strong .”

He was elated that the Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika has already promised to support the cargo wing of the airport with facilities when operational.

Ayade described the airport, which is situated close to the famous Obudu Mountain Resort, as the “link between the South and Northern Nigeria.

Experts say the airport has 5.6 meters runway, about the longest in Nigeria.
