Boko Haram Leader Threatens To Disrupt Elections In New Video

In a new video released via social media platform, Twitter on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau has vowed to disrupt the forthcoming general election.

Referring to the election, Shekau who spoke in Hause language said: “This election will not be held even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it.”

In the video, he also claimed responsibility for the attack on Gombe State, which was repelled by the military, stating that contrary to claims by the military, he and his fighters had a swell day, overrunning troops and freeing imprisoned insurgents.

Despite the threats from Shekau, experts say that the Islamist sect would be incapable of ruining the conduct of the election, as security operatives a better prepared following the six-week shift in the polls announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
