Must read

The federal government has sacked the executive secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara.

Okpara’s removal was communicated in a letter  by secretary to the government of federation, Babachir Lawal dated Friday, May 20, 2016.

The statement said his disengagement was with immediate effect.

He was appointed in 2008 by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua for an initial five years and was reappointed in June 2013 by Goodluck Jonathan at the expiration of his first term.

His second term is to expire in June 2018.

According to the law setting up the pilgrims agency, “The chairman or any members of the commission may be removed from office by the president, if the president is satisfied that it is not in the interest of the commission or the public that the member should continue in office.”

The government has not announced Opara’s replacement.
