BUNGUDU, Nigeria — Seven captives, including the chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, have escaped from kidnappers.
According to a PRNigeria report published on Thursday, September 24, 2026, it had not independently established the circumstances of the escape, the length of captivity, or how the group reached safety.
Those reported free included Nura Umar Abdullahi, the council chairman, and Auwalu Makama, whose father previously chaired the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Unnamed sources told PRNigeria that the seven left the camp after their captors departed for another operation.

Cattle Await Return in Sokoto
Separately, the report said troops had recovered stolen cattle in Sokoto State and were holding the animals pending their return to their owners.
Arrangements had been made to transfer the livestock to the chairman of Sokoto State’s Committee on the Recovery of Rustled Animals.
The committee would verify ownership before releasing the cattle to affected residents.
PRNigeria said soldiers encountered armed men moving livestock along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi Road in Kebbe Local Government Area.
The men opened fire, and the troops responded, according to the report.
The armed men then fled into surrounding bush, leaving the cattle behind.
The Punch also reported the recovery, citing a military source who said the livestock was being held while ownership was checked.
