Chef Removes Policeman’s Tooth With Headbutt In Lagos

A chef identified as John Akpan has been arraigned by the Lagos State police officials for allegedly using a headbutt to remove an upper tooth of an officer during a brawl in the state.

36-year-old Akpan, committed the offence against Inspector Atoe Frederick, around 5pm on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in the Olojojo, Oworonshoki area.

It was learnt that Akpan refused to obey Frederick’s orders which thereafter degenerated into an argument between the duo which prompted the defendant to give Frederick a headbutt in the mouth removing the tooth.

Akpan was arraigned on one count before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Yaba, Lagos on Monday, June 22, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, John Akpan, on June 20, 2015, along Olojojo, Oworonshoki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did obstruct and assault AP No 154905 Inspector Atoe Frederick, attached to Oworonshoki Division while performing his lawful duty by giving him a headbutt resulting to the removal of one of his upper teeth, inflicting injury in his mouth and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172 (B) of the Criminal Law Of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and elected summary trial.

According to the Investigating Police Officer, Sergeant Femi Adesuwon, the victim was admitted at the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos, Punch reports.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A. O. Soladoye, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Soladoye further adjourned the matter till Wednesday, July 22, 2015 for hearing.
