Some of us are holding on to dead things: we should have released them a long time ago, but we are holding on to them, still investing time and resources on them, still hoping for a change, still hoping for improvement; which will never come. It’s time to cut them off our lives! It’s time to say, “I love you, but I’ve been patient enough; I’ve got to release you so that I can make progress.”
Jesus told this story: “A man had a fig tree. He planted it in his garden. He came looking for some fruit on it, but he found none. He had a servant who took care of his garden. So he said to his servant, ‘I have been looking for fruit on this tree for three years, but I never find any. Cut it down! Why should it waste the ground?’ But the servant answered, ‘Master, let the tree have one more year to produce fruit. Let me dig up the dirt around it and fertilize it. Maybe the tree will have fruit on it next year. If it still does not produce, then you can cut it down.’”
What’s that thing that you need to cut off? Who’s that person that you are clinging to? You’ve been pursuing that thing for years, isn’t it time you pursued something else? You’ve tried to revive it but it has refused to resurrect! When are you going to realize that you are wasting your time, energy and resources? Come on, don’t let pride and ego deceive you! It’s time to focus on what’s fruitful in your life so that it can bring you more happiness and satisfaction!
