The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied claims that it collates the Abia gubernatorial election results in Abuja. INEC’s spokesperson, Festus Okoye, made this known during a press conference held in Umuahia, the state capital.

“There is no truth to the rumors that we are collating the results of the Abia gubernatorial election in Abuja. Our collation center is in Umuahia, and we are following due process in collating and announcing the results,” Okoye said.

According to a report from Vanguard, the Labour Party is leading in the Abia gubernatorial election, and the candidate of the Labour Party, Alex Otti, has emerged as the front-runner. Alex Otti is a former managing director of Diamond Bank and a third-time contender in the gubernatorial race.

As of the time of filing this report, the results of the election are still being collated and announced by INEC. However, it is reported that Alex Otti is leading with a significant margin, followed by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Abia gubernatorial election held on Saturday, March 18, and was keenly contested by various political parties. The election witnessed a large turnout of voters, with security agencies ensuring a peaceful and conducive environment for the exercise.

As the results continue to be collated, INEC has urged politicians and their supporters to be patient and allow the commission to do its job. The commission has also reiterated its commitment to ensuring a free, fair and credible election in the state.
