Maiduguri, Nigeria – Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has secured a second term in office, following a closely-watched gubernatorial election held on March 18, 2023.
Governor Zulum, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious after garnering widespread support from constituents who praised his efforts to combat insurgency and improve the lives of Borno residents.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed the victory, announcing that Governor Zulum secured 65% of the vote against his closest rival, who trailed with 30%. The remaining 5% of votes were split among other candidates. Voter turnout remained high, as Borno residents expressed their faith in the electoral process and voiced their desire for continued progress.
Governor Zulum’s first term in office was marked by significant strides in addressing the Boko Haram insurgency, which has plagued the region for over a decade.
