The Jewel in the Savannah and the Economic hub of the Northeastern part of Nigeria was yesterday, 4th April, 2017 filled with great joy and celebrations as Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo marked his 55th birthday.
Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo was born on 4th April, 1962 from the family of Mallam Hassan Dankwambo (The first Talba of Gombe). He is a graduate of Accounting from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University class of 1985 with a Master of science degree in Economics from the University of Lagos class of 1992, post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science in Delta State University, Abraka and a PhD. in Accounting from Igbinedion University. A Fellow and Associate of Six professional bodies and associations which include: Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (FCA); Associate, Nigeria Institute of Managements (ANIM); Fellow, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI); Member, Nigeria Economic Society (MNES);Fellow, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB); and Fellow, Nigeria Institute of Marketers (FNIM).
Governor Dankwambo as the last man standing in both academia and politics has attended six International courses in different countries which included: Harvard University, Boston Massachusetts, USA where he attended a course on Global Financial Systems, Crisis Prospects and Solution. Stanford University, Stanford Business School for a course on Budgeting and Financial Management in the Public Sector just to mention a few.
His contribution in giving the foundation to the changed Nigeria, Governor Dankwambo has served in fourteen very sensitive committees which included the following: Protem Executive Secretary; Forum of Accountant – General and Auditor – General in West Africa (FAAGWA). Chairman Review of Financial Regulations and other Financial law in Gombe State. Co-Chairman – Standardization of Federal, State and Local Government accounts in Nigeria, Sub – chairman Review of Syllabus for Bank Examiners Training. As the Accountant – General of the Federation, he has introduced landmark programs towards ensuring accountability, transparency and probity. Amongst them are: He embarked on massive re- organization of the Office to make it more focused, pragmatic and professionally suitable for efficient service delivery.
Though, Governor Dankwambo is on vacation and out of the country but handed over the mantle of leadership to his deputy, Hon. Charles Iliya as mandated by the constitution. Gombe people have joined him in celebrating his 55th Birthday, where his cabinets have Yesterday organized a Dinner under the leadership of the Deputy Governor in order to showcase how important 4th April is to the good people of Gombe State and also cuts the Birthday cake on behalf of the Governor.
The Dinner was attended by the Gombe State Acting Governor, Hon. Charles Iliya, Chief of Staff to the Gombe State Governor, Hon. Ahmed Yayari, members of the Executive council among which are Gombe State Commissioner of Finance, Hon. Malam Hassan Muhammadu, Commissioner for Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Abubakar Walama, Commissioner of Youth Empowerment, Hon. Malam Faruk Yarma etc. Other people are: Clerk to the Speaker, Gombe State House of Assembly, Chairman Gombe Local Government Area, Hon. Sani Hassan S. Dogarai, Advisers, Senior Special Assistant and Special Assistant and many other dignitaries.
In his opening remarks, the Gombe State Commissioner of Finance, Malam Hassan Muhammadu has congratulated Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for his Birthday and also pray for more blessings in his future. The commissioner also commended Governor Dankwambo for his immense contribution to the development of Gombe State.
In another remarks by the Hon. Commissioner of Youth Empowerment, Hon. Malam Faruk Yarma, congratulated the Governor for adding a year in his life and described his Birthday as a special day to be celebrated by the good people of Gombe State. Yarma has commended the acting Governor for moving the state as exactly how Dankwambo is doing. We all know that Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has officially travelled for his vacation and constitutionally handed over the mantle of Leadership to his Deputy, but it seems like the Governor hasn’t travel because the acting Governor is actually following the footsteps of Dankwambo and maintaining the Good work rolling in the State- Yarma Said.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Dankwambo, Hon. Ahmed Yayari also shared his words of joy by congratulating Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for turning 55 and pray for more fruitful years that can be of beneficial to the Gombe State and Nigeria at large.
Hon. Ahmed Yayari said that Governor Dankwambo is truly a leader with his people at heart, he is a leader with all good qualities of a leader and not only a leader but an institution.
“You wouldn’t know that Governor Dankwambo is a blessing to our state until you visit other states and see how people are cheering him and even pleading to borrow him for some days to lead their Statee,” Yayari said as he also urged the people of Gombe State to continue supporting Dankwambo administration through prayers and all other necessary supports that the administration needs.
In his address, the acting Governor, Hon. Charles Iliya, gave a brief history of Governor Dankwambo and his contributions to the development of Gombe State and Nigeria at large. The acting Governor also congratulated the governor for clicking 55 and pray for his success in the years ahead.
