A husband gave a magistrate court a load of complaints about his wife, branding her a thief, a dirty and lazy woman who doesn’t cook just to get a divorce.
“My wife is a thief, on several occasions, she stole my money from my wardrobe, rendering me broke,’’ a divorce-seeking spouse told a Lagos court on Thursday, August 18, 2016.
Forty-five-year-old Livinus Uwa, a businessman, had approached an Igando Customary Court sitting at a Lagos suburb, to dissolve his four-year-old marriage to the “resident thief’’,” Vanguard reports.
“I married a thief …the last time she burgled my room and stole N350, 000. I reported the theft at the police station and she confessed to the theft, but the money was not recovered,’’ he said.
Uwa said his estranged wife, Chineye, had a daughter for him in the four-year-old marriage. The petitioner accused his wife, who had failed to appear in court after several summonses of abandoning him.
“Since we got married, my wife has been always appearing and disappearing.
“When she was pregnant, she left the house to an unknown place and came back after she was delivered of the baby.
“She abandoned our baby when she was 10 months old; I have to engage a babysitter to take care of her.
“When the baby was two years old, I enrolled her in school and my wife reappeared,” he said.
Uwa also described his wife as a lazy and dirty woman.
“Chineye is lazy, she cannot cook, wash or sweep, I do the house chores,” Mr. Uwa told the court.
“I have reported all her attitudes and stealing habits to both families, they called her but she refused to change.”
Uwa pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage, saying “I am no longer in love’’.
“Please, dissolve this marriage, I can no longer condone her stealing habits.”
The court’s president, Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to September 20 for judgment.
