‘I don’t know where Shekau is. If I knew, I won’t tell you’ – Chadian President Derby

Must read

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, May 11, 2015, received the Chadian President, Idris Derby, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for a meeting.

The Chadian President, while speaking with reporters after his meeting with President Jonathan, explained that he did not know where Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is.

A few months ago, the Chadian President was reported to have claimed to know where Shekau was hiding and that he had asked Shekau to either surrender or risk being kiiled by Chadian security forces.

While responding to questions, President Derby said even if he knew where the terrorist was hiding, he would not reveal it.

He said: “I cannot tell you today that I know where Shekau is hiding ‎and even if I knew I won’t tell you.”

He hinted also that what may have also affected the success of the on going operations to tackle Boko Haram was the inability of the Nigerian and Chadian army’s to carry out joint operations.

“Is regrettable that the two armies that is the Nigerian army and the Chadian Army are working separating in the field, they are not undertaking joint operation. If they were operating joint operation probably they would have achieved more results,” he said.

According to him, the reason why he was in Nigeria was to consult with President Jonathan on the fight against terrorism and to congratulate him for setting a good record for Africa by conceding defeat in the just concluded election.
