A 43-year-old operative of the Department of State Security Services (DSS), was on Sunday, April 24, 2016 attacked and burnt by a youth in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Sources in Oghara told newsmen that the victim, Andrew Maduku, was allegedly set ablaze and later died from severe burns he suffered at an undisclosed hospital in the area.
Maduku, an indigene of the community, was attached to the DSS office in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The state police command said that those who set the father-of-four ablaze would be apprehended and brought to book.
The command’s public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, said that the major suspect in the death of Maduku was on the run.
According to reports, a friend of the late secret police officer, Mr. Emmanuel Iteme, alleged that the victim had been having a misunderstanding with his suspected assailants who took opportunity of his visit to the community to carry out the dastardly act.
“The victim had returned from Bayelsa to Oghara on Friday to see his family and was relaxing outside his Ovie Palace Road residence when the suspect stormed his residence, poured fuel on him, set him ablaze and fled the town,” Iteme told Authority.
“The late Andrew was immediately rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead the next day from first degree burns he sustained from the incident.”
