The Ebonyi State House of Assembly witnessed an unexpected invasion of thugs on Monday, December 15, 2014 as the assembly complex was invaded by more than 300 thugs, who allegedly beat up Hon. Sam Nwali, the House leader and his faction, preventing them from entering the assembly chambers.

The Deputy Speaker, Blaise Orji, Chief Whip, Kingsley Ikoro and nine other honorable s, belonging to a faction of the House were also locked out and humiliated by the thugs as the other faction, led by the speaker of the House, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku was sitting within the chambers to revisit the sacking of some assembly staffs by the state government

The inner faction also maintained their objection to N15 billion bonds applied for by the state government, and also extended the suspension placed on two lawmakers; Hon.Kingsley Ikoeo and Hon.Oliver Nwachukwu.

The oppressed faction was reported to have called the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Maigari Dikko, who arrived the assembly complex with reinforcement of policemen, and ordered the immediate arrest of over 120 of the hoodlums.

Addressing the act of the speaker and his faction, the deputy speaker stated that his faction, arrived the Assembly complex and were restricted by policemen at the entrance gate before being allowed into the premises. He said they met with another set of policemen prevented them from entering the chambers at the inner entrance to the complex.

He said that it was at that point that the thugs descended on them and begin to mal-handle them.

The Speaker, Nwazunku and his loyalists has however denied that the other lawmakers were not invited for the sitting and that they were restricted by thugs.
