Stampede As Female Secondary School Student Caught With Bombs In Taraba

A female Senior Secondary School one (SS1) student of the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Jalingo, Taraba State who was simply identified as Blessing was on Monday, January 5, 2015 caught with two grenades in her possession.

Thisday reports that Blessing was caught by the school’s security guards who were carrying out searches on students’ luggage upon resumption of the second term of the academic year.

Blessing, who joined the school in September 2014 was quickly held alongside her father, a retired Police Inspector from Numan in Adamawa State after the bombs were found concealed in cassava flour (garri).

The bomb disposal unit at the police headquarters in Jalingo was quickly called in to detonate the bombs.

The incident cause melee in the school as staff and students began running for cover after information of the bombs in the school premises quickly spread. It was with considerable effort that the school authorities were able to restore calm in the school.

Taraba State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Joseph Kwaji, who confirmed the incident said both the girl and her father were being held in police custody, as investigation on the matter had commenced.
