FIFA’s Ethics Committee has banned 11 individuals from soccer-related activities amid U.S. allegations of corruption.
This is coming after years of allegations of FIFA corruption. Current president, Sepp Blatter has not been charged, and is scheduled to go up for re-election on Friday, May 29, 2015.
Official of FIFA and European soccer governing body, UEFA are considering weather to attend the upcoming FIFA World Congress which these organizations has said should be postponed and the presidential election organized within the next 6 months as a result of these corruption allegations.
FIFA officials are accused of taking bribes totaling more than $150 million and in return providing “lucrative media and marketing rights” to soccer tournaments as kickbacks over the past 24 years.
Some Swiss officials have been arrested while others are being investigate. Also, the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 world cup scheduled to hold in Russia and Qatar respectively is being investigated.
