Fire Razes Kaduna State University ICT Centre

NAN – The Information Communications Technology (ICT) Centre at the Kaduna State University was on Friday razed by fire, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The fire, which started at about 11 a.m. burnt a section of the centre, which was donated by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.

An eye-witness, Bello Jibrin, told NAN that the intervention of fire fighters from state’s fire service and men of the Nigerian Army saved the building from burning completely.

“ We were in our lecture theatre when we saw smoke coming out of the building, then we rushed out to save some of the computers and other properties, ’’ Jibrin said.

The Director of the Kaduna State Fire Service, Mr Paul Oboy, confirmed the incident, saying “that the fire occurred at about 11 a.m. when students were in their classrooms.

“We responded swiftly as soon as we received the distress call and we were able to save some parts of the building.

“We are happy no lives were lost from the incident.’’

Oboy said that although, the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained it would be properly investigated.

He said that after investigating the cause of the fire, measures would be taken to ensure that there was no repeat occurrence.
