Governor Nyako’s Flight Grounded As Military Shuts Down Yola Airport

Must read

The Nigerian military authorities have reportedly shutdown the Yola International Airport in Adamawa State preventing the governor, Murtala Nyako from taking off.

The shut down reportedly occurred in the morning of Wednesday, June 18, 2014 which prevented Nyako from embarking on a planned trip to Abuja where he was expected to be at a meeting initiated by former British Prime Minister, Mr. Gordon Brown, over the continued insurgency in the Northeast.

This forced the governor to travel by road to Minna.

The staff of the airport said the facility was barred to all commercial and private aircraft based on orders from authorities in Abuja.

Staff of the control tower were chased away by Air Force personnel on Wednesday morning.

The entrance to the airport terminal was also locked down.
